![]() Gregorian chant was standard in the Mass in the 1950s, but fell out of favor after the Second Vatican Council, when the traditional Latin Mass was changed to the dominant language of each country. After a few tries and some Audacity cut and paste, I was able to solfege the example piece from the first post, Beatus Vir. Though Gregorian chant eventually became the music of the church, its use has had periods of intense popularity throughout the centuries and eras when it receded, McDonnell said. It is possible to cut and paste between gregorian and modern staves. Anyone interested in the history and development of Western music will welcome this collection of outstanding musical examples illustrating the general course of musical style from the early Middle Ages to the mid-eighteenth century. ![]()
